Sumukha Ayurveda Hospital

Ancient wisdom. Compassionate care.

Our Story

A Legacy of Authentic Ayurvedic Care

The rising tide of affluence has given today the advantages of technology and opportunity — but at the same time it has deteriorated our way of life. The simple, balanced lifestyles our older generation enjoyed, without today's buzz words of work-life balance, detoxification, rejuvenation and stress management, were sustained by a profound faith in mother earth. The entire world now looks to Ayurveda as an important part of life.

To support this demanding need, Sumukha emerged — to contribute to mankind, society and nation. Founded in the year 2006, under the leadership of Dr. Guheshwar B. Patil and Dr. Ashwini G. Patil, and with the gracious guidance of Dr. Eshwara Reddy, a renowned Ayurveda specialist in India, Sumukha gradually carved out its niche. Operating successfully for over two decades, it today stands among the most prestigious Ayurvedic centres in the region.

The name Sumukha is rooted in Sanskrit — Su meaning auspicious or good, and mukha meaning face — the face being the true mirror of a person's physical and mental health. Nestled in the heart of Haveri district, on a 10-acre campus surrounded by ancient temples and mesmerising landscapes, Sumukha is endowed with a soothing, peaceful ambiance that sets in every visitor a unique feeling of tranquility.

Sumukha works on three main pillars: to bring awareness about Ayurveda and Yoga; to restore balance in the physical and mental health of every individual; and to integrate Tourism — firmly believing that Nature itself has a vital role in healthy, happy living.

The Ancient Science

About Ayurveda

Ayurveda — the science of life

The rich history of Ayurveda dates back more than 5,000 years. Ayur in Sanskrit means longevity — life itself — and Veda is knowledge. Ayurveda is therefore the science of life. Its foundational concept is that life is influenced by a multitude of factors — both external and internal. The environment, the seasons, the planets, the food we eat, our mindset, our perspectives and behaviour — all of these impact our wellbeing.

Life, consisting of mind, soul and body, is not always in balance. The harmony is lost. Aligning these three major aspects — mind, body and soul — is what Ayurveda is all about. Unlike allopathic treatment, which seeks immediate symptom relief, Ayurveda is a healing process through herbal remedies, Yoga, exercise, dietary therapy, and other wholesome methods.

Today's modern Ayurveda has become the driving force for all peoples across the globe — setting new standards in weight reduction, stress management, diabetes, arthritis, and many more dimensions of human health.

Sam dosha, samagni, samdhatu malakriyah

Prasannatma, indriyas manah swath abhidayate.

— Sushruta Samhita, Sutrasthanam 24/41  ·  (Definition adopted by the WHO)

"Health is achieved when all three doshas, agni (metabolic fire) and dhatus (tissues) are in balance, waste excretion is proper, and the atman (soul), senses, and intellect are in harmony — this is svastha, optimal health."

Ayurveda — ancient healing wisdom

Tridosha

Balance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha — the three fundamental bio-energies that govern all physiological and psychological functions.

Agni

The digestive and metabolic fire — the root of health and longevity. Balanced Agni transforms food into nourishment and thought into wisdom.

Prakriti

Your unique constitutional type — the blueprint of your nature. Every Ayurvedic treatment is tailored to the individual's Prakriti for deepest efficacy.

Panchamahabhuta

The five great elements — earth, water, fire, air and space — form the basis of all matter in the universe and within the human body.

Our Purpose

Vision & Mission
